Kids Butterfly Costume

Whether they go trick or treating or to Halloween parties, kids love to wear costumes. The sweet animated movie character Tinkerbell has brought the butterfly costumes back in trend. Being a fairy, Tinkerbell reminded the children how fun butterfly costumes can be.

Butterflies

The kids butterfly costumes are so popular because they can be easily created by using items you already own. In order to have an authentic butterfly costume, you have to study with your kid every part of a butterflies body.

Butterfly’s arms and body

The butterfly’s arms can be left out when creating a butterfly costume for your kid. They are pretty hard to make, but if you want to be realistic, cut firstly a feather boa into four equal pieces. The next thing to do is attaching at the tips of the boa two pieces together by using fishing wire.

Continue attaching the other two pieces of the boa to each side of the costume’s top. And finally, the top feather boa needs to get attached to an elastic bracelet by using fishing wire. Kids are fascinated to see that when they move their arms, the costume arms move too.

Butterflies have solid coloured bodies. Let your kid wear a matching solid colour dress to the wings. If your child does not like to wear dresses, you can let him wear one coloured pants and top too. For a special touch, add a sparkling belt/stripe to the costume. For a unique costume design, watch with your kid butterflies photos. They are such great inspiration!

Butterfly’s wings

The butterfly has four symmetrical wings: two top and two bottom wings. Constructing the wings is a laborious work to do, but it is worth spending time with your child for constructing them.

Step 1

Bend four wire hangers into butterfly wings-shaped form.

Step 2

Start by attaching two wings sets vertically. Twist the wire hangers’ hanging end together so that they form a stem. Proceed in the same way with the other wings set too.

Step 3

Continue by stretching nylon stockings over the hangers and paint the wings with craft paint and glitter. Match the butterfly wings symmetrical.

Step 4

And finally, twist the stems together. Let your kid try the wings on. If they do not fit, make the necessary adjustments.

Step 5- Butterfly’s antennae

Use two pipe cleaners and cotton balls or glittery puff balls in order to create them. Use hot glue to attach them together. The antennae can be twist around a simple black headband.

If you do not have the time to create the kids butterfly costume, choose with your kid the best looking costume from the local stores or the internet.
